I just watched a great documentary on PBS about dwarves. Leave your snide comments and 'hilarious' shit jokes about short people in the back of your throats. The documentary had a few interviews with different people in the seventies who attended a Little People's National Convention. It followed them in their homes as well as showed how their different ages and interests aided in their accepting their bodies and lives. It then showed them 20 years later. It also discussed genetic screeing. Even I was surprised to learn that doctor's give patients the choice of aborting their children based solely on the fact that they are to be a dwarf. I can't even begin to explain my feelings on this, but I will say that I was interested to here the opinions of those in the documentary.
I think the one thing that really seemed to get me was when one woman said she had dreams about running. She said she would wake up all day and think about having long legs just so she could enjoy that feeling. Of course, as a dwarf, no matter what type a person is, walking more than a few blocks can be difficult.
Today I was realizing how much running was so lovely when I was in the yard with the dogs, then I saw that program.. I'm going for a big run tomorrow and I'm really going to enjoy it.

The most exciting thing to me, however, was that one woman took her old footage and continued the documentary twenty years later. Jan Krawitz was solely responsible for all content and footage, as it read at the end. How encouraging. I'm starting work on the documentary I'm doing on my Aunt Mary, school teacher, world traveler and now a published author (honored in Washington at a special ceremony). In case anyone is interested, here's link to the Teacher at Sea webpage which documents the trip that was the basis for her educational book.

I'm sure all of this will be looked at by... me. But one day all of you who know me well will be forced to watch the riveting piece. Be prepared.
Oh and Soophie's playing Friday.
