Absolutely the Best

Way I Feel Inside

I just watched a great documentary on PBS about dwarves. Leave your snide comments and 'hilarious' shit jokes about short people in the back of your throats. The documentary had a few interviews with different people in the seventies who attended a Little People's National Convention. It followed them in their homes as well as showed how their different ages and interests aided in their accepting their bodies and lives. It then showed them 20 years later. It also discussed genetic screeing. Even I was surprised to learn that doctor's give patients the choice of aborting their children based solely on the fact that they are to be a dwarf. I can't even begin to explain my feelings on this, but I will say that I was interested to here the opinions of those in the documentary.

I think the one thing that really seemed to get me was when one woman said she had dreams about running. She said she would wake up all day and think about having long legs just so she could enjoy that feeling. Of course, as a dwarf, no matter what type a person is, walking more than a few blocks can be difficult.

Today I was realizing how much running was so lovely when I was in the yard with the dogs, then I saw that program.. I'm going for a big run tomorrow and I'm really going to enjoy it.

The most exciting thing to me, however, was that one woman took her old footage and continued the documentary twenty years later. Jan Krawitz was solely responsible for all content and footage, as it read at the end. How encouraging. I'm starting work on the documentary I'm doing on my Aunt Mary, school teacher, world traveler and now a published author (honored in Washington at a special ceremony). In case anyone is interested, here's link to the Teacher at Sea webpage which documents the trip that was the basis for her educational book.

An article regarding the book.

Another informative article.

I'm sure all of this will be looked at by... me. But one day all of you who know me well will be forced to watch the riveting piece. Be prepared.

Oh and Soophie's playing Friday.

Things to do this summer, not including canoeing, learning to cook all sorts of interesting dishes, photo expeditions, camping trips, music fests, riverhouse stays, swimming, film watching, long winded bicycle rides...

Two jobs won't hold me down. We can love these lives we lead.

Karly Buff and I are going to look at a cute little two bedroom tomorrow thanks to Mr. Baldy's apt. making skills. It'll be around $250 a month for me, including utilites. Apparently Seth has the hookup when it comes to a fridge and other such necessecities, and my aunt kept her old couch for when I move out. But for tonight I'm gonna meet up with my (hopefully!) future roommate and go to Nathan's house for a little get-together. I'm not sure I'm so into hanging out with a crowd mostly made up of people I haven't rushed to see since high school. But Karly will be there and, sadly, so will a pack of cigarettes. I'm less worried about public opinion at the moment and more focused on unhealthy comforts, just to let everyone know.

And thanks to Liz :) the only thing running through my head right now are the lyrics to Dynamite Hack's cover of Easy E's Boyz in Da Hood...

coz' boys in the hood are always hard

come talkin' that trash and we'll pull your card

knowin' nothin' in life but to be legit

don't quote me boy, i ain't said shit...

Who's going to Katie's bridal shower?

I'm gonna try to meet up with Liz and Brit in LR to catch a ride, but if any of you other gals can attend, call me up and we'll figure out how to caravan up there. Plus, I thought we should take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy the under 21 life (i.e. the zoo... haha Liz was RIGHT on the money there) since a few of us know it's whack to try anything but.

Plus, now that I thought of it, I could stay with Candice maybe!! yah yah (you getting this, sister friend?)

We Both Go Down Together.

by The Decemberists. Charming. Subtle. Hard.

I love music. It's a blanket of comfort.

BG and Nathan, an ex and an old friend just left my place, along with my brother. Some silly drinks and Spellbound make for a good time.

I was listening to Picaresque today while the dogs stuck their heads out my back window to catch the wind I know they've missed for what seems like decades. And this song played. And I cried. It was quick and I was singing along which such a smile on my face that my dimples hurt. The world is simple again.
